Vietnam, 613,800 online stores: what changes for you

Online sales in Vietnam grew 44% in the first half of 2026. The number worth reading twice is a different one, and it says who is winning.

The first-half 2026 figures came out in July, and they are big: online sales in Vietnam reached VND 291.6 trillion, up 44.1 percent on the same period a year earlier. The source is the Vietnam E-Business Index 2026, as reported by Vietnam Briefing.

But the figure worth reading twice is another one: active online stores stand at 613,800, up 14.1 percent. That is where the real news is.

Revenue is growing three times faster than stores

If stores grow by 14 percent and sales by 44, the arithmetic is quick: each store, on average, is selling about a quarter more than a year ago. This is not a market where lots of small sellers walk in to share the same pie. It is a market where the pie grows faster than the people sitting down to eat it.

The second figure explains where it is heading: the fastest-growing category is groceries and food, +152 percent. Not electronics, not fashion. Everyday shopping — small orders, frequent, often decided in a conversation: "do you still have it?", "can you put two aside for me?".

That kind of sale does not go through a cart. It goes through a chat.

What it means for you

You are one of those 613,800, or you want to be. The growth is there, but with 613,799 alternatives one tap away, the customer does not wait. If they ask a price and the answer comes ten minutes later, they have already bought from someone else.

In a market like this, the difference between someone growing 25 percent and someone standing still is how long it takes you to answer with something serious: not a "yes I have it" thrown into the chat, but a quote with the right figures, which then becomes an order and then a receipt without retyping anything.

In 2026, speed is the shop window. The product does the rest.

How Yataio helps

Yataio was built for exactly this scene: the customer writes, you answer with a real document in a few taps. Pick the customer, add the items, and the quote is ready to send inside the chat — as text to paste, as an image, or as a PDF.

When the customer says yes, the quote becomes an order with one tap. When they pay, the order becomes a receipt with another. You enter the data once.

And it works with no network: at the market, on the scooter, in the back room with no signal. The market grows 44 percent — and the only thing you have to do is keep nobody waiting.

How one document turns into the next is in the guide. If the problem is keeping track of orders that arrive in chat, I wrote about it here.
